• District Level Tennis Ball Cricket Tournament

A team of 24 students were deputed to represent Kancheepuram District at the District Level Tennis Ball Cricket Tournament held at Y.M.C.A. Ground, Chennai on 19th & 20th November 2011. The Tournament was conducted on league basis. Our team placed third, losing by a few runs to the strongest teams of Vellore & Tiruvannamalai District Teams.

PERI Institute of Technology appreciated all the team members for their valiant efforts shown in the matches. The Institution motivates the students, in all aspects, regularly by coaching and guiding through its Physical Education Department.

State Level

• State Level Football Tournament - Goa

PERI IT deputed four students (1/3rd of team members) for representation to Tamil Nadu State Team in the Junior Under-17, 7-A Side Football Tournament, held at Goa between 3rd and 6th November 2011. The Team defeated the Andhra Pradesh state team with the score of 3-1. Unfortunately, the team lost to Uttar Pradesh in a tie-break with scoring of (4-5).

PERI - IT announces hire of new Principal

Dr. S. Sendil Velan, M.E.(Thermal),M.Tech.(CAD),Ph.D., Principal, PERI Institute of Technology



PERI Institute of Technology is pleased to welcome our new Principal Dr. S. Sendil Velan .

Dr. S. Sendil Velan received his Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Institution of Engineers in the year 1988. He further went on to complete his Masters in Mechanical Engineering for Thermal Power Engineering from Annamalai University in 1992 and a Masters in Technology in CAD from Pondicherry University. Here, he secured University First Rank in 2009. He also received his Ph.D. for his research work in the area of IC Engine Emission Control in 2002 from Anna University, Chennai.

He served at various positions at Bharath University, Chennai for 13 Years and worked for 2 years as principal at Thangavelu Engineering college. He also served as Registrar, Dean (Research) and Dean (Engg.&Tech.) at Dr.MGR University, Chennai for 4 years. He served as principal, Aksheyaa College of Engineering, Puludivakkam, Chennai for 1.5 years.

"We are delighted to have Dr. Sendil Velan with us and believe he will add a great dimension to our education program," said Sarav Periasamy, Chairman of PERI IT. "With his vast amount of experience and training, his position will be highly beneficial to our engineering programs."

Dr. S. Sendil Velan has guided 9 candidates in their doctoral researches. He has published more than 70 articles in National and International publications. He has 7 citations in international journals including Elsevier, Vehicle Engine-Germany and IMechE proceedings. He was a member of several technical committees on national and international conferences

His research paper “Modelling of Cold Start Emission Control System in IC Engine”, has been selected for the Best-of Book of the AMSE in 2006, AMSE Journal, France. He is the member of several Indian and international professional bodies.

“Anybody can learn” and “You should always strive to keep learning” said Dr. Sendil Velan during the welcome ceremony. He also said that he is excited to work with students and enjoys the challenge of teaching eager learners. “When the students are eager to learn and master their trade, this in turn pushes us,” he says, “and I like that.”

Laptop Computer donation initiative to all PERI IT students

PERI IT’s Board of trustees unanimously voted to purchase and donate free laptops to all PERI IT students in their first year of admissions at PERI.

The college also will be monitoring usage of the computers and will proactively update software and/or purchase new systems to meet student requests. Typically, the purchase of laptops comes from student fees, but at PERI, the management wanted to have an opportunity to donate the laptops free of cost to directly support students.

The free laptops were awarded to the students at a function held at PERI IT presided over by Mr.K.Periasamy - Trustee, Mrs.P.Pappathi - Trustee, Mr.Jaya Prakash - COO and Dr. S. Nanjundan - Principal Incharge. The event was covered by press and media in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
