Department of Chemistry, Peri College of Arts and Science organized a webinar on “Chemistry in day to day life” on 23rd April 2021. The need to conduct this webinar has been identified as, it is so fundamental to our world, chemistry plays a role in everyone's lives and touches almost every aspect of our existence in some way. The guest speaker for the webinar was Professor Dr. ER Nagarajan, Department of Chemistry, Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education, Srivilliputhur.

More than 50 participants have joined the webinar using Google Meet. The program commenced at 2.00 PM. The Program started with a welcome address given by Ms. Subashini, I B.Sc Chemistry. A special and warm welcome was conveyed to the chief guest, for his presence. Dr. Subasri A, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry introduced the speaker Dr. ER Nagarajan.

Our speaker, Dr. ER Nagarajan greeted the gathering and highlighted the importance of chemistry and its role in our daily life. The speaker was enthusiastic all over the session. He explained about the elements in human body, the process of photosynthesis, the cloth we wear, the paste, soap, the detergents for laundrys, plastic accessories which we use, nomenclature of polymers and its synthesis, Electrochemical principles of batteries, hardness of water and removal of hardness in water etc. After finishing his lecture the speaker had question and answers session. Student and staff had effective brainstorming session with the speaker. He wished them all success.

The webinar was concluded with vote of thanks by Mr. Siva, I B.Sc Chemistry. Heartfelt thanks extended to the Chairman, Mr. Saravanan Periyasamy and COO, Mr. Sasi Veerarajan, and the Principal, Dr. A. Gunasekaran, Vice Principal, Dr. V. Simson Rajkumar and Head of the Department, Dr. P. Nirmala. Special thanks conveyed to the Guest of Honor, Dr. ER Nagarajan, who accepted to deliver the lecture and graced the event. He also thanked the administrative staffs for the grand success of the event. Feedback link was sent to the participants and recorded. Students had also given a good feedback about the webinar stating that they understood the importance of chemistry in day to day life.
