It is a two year post graduate programme. The curriculum for this course is set by University of Madras on the basis of CBCS (Choice Based Credit System). The Department possesses sophisticated laboratories and highly efficient and well qualified teaching faculties.
The Department imparts knowledge of the basic principles of Bacteriology, Mycology, Parasitology, Virology, Phycology, Immunology, Genetic Engineering, Biotechnology, Recombinant DNA technology etc., including the beneficial aspects as well as the nature of pathogenic microorganisms, pathogenesis, laboratory diagnosis, transmission, prevention and control of diseases common in the world.
There is an ever increasing demand for microbiologists in India and globally. viz. Quality Assurance Technologist (Healthcare Department and Pharmaceutical Industries, Agro Industries, Food & Dairy Industries, Beverage and Distilleries Unit etc.), Clinical Research Associate, Food Technologist, Medical coder/ Medical Transcriber, Teaching Opportunities, Food safety officer in Food Manufacturing units, Senior Scientific writers and Patent lawyers, Chemical Industries.
Eligibility: A pass in B.Sc. Degree programme in any Branch of biological science or Medicine or any other degree recognized as equivalent by the Syndicate.
