PERI Job Fair 2014

  • Official News Release - PERI Job Fair on 22nd & 23rd March 2014
  • PERI Institute of Technology (PERI IT) conducted Chennai’s largest job fair, the PERI Job Fair 2014 on 22nd & 23rd March 2014. More than 40,000 candidates from all over India congregated at PERI campus, Mannivakkam, West Tambaram, Chennai to meet 37 companies with over 5000 job openings. The candidates were from varied disciplines including engineering, management, arts, science and life sciences.

The fair was open to all 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 graduates. Entry was free for all and the candidates started coming in at 8.00 am. By 10.30 am, more than 25,000 candidates had arrived leading to a total of 30,000 candidates in the first day. Another 10,000 candidates came on 24th setting the final total to approximately 40,000 candidates. This has been the largest turnout for a job fair in Chennai.

PERI had organised facilities for various stages of interview including group discussion, face-to-face and multi-panel interviews. In addition, free transport to the fair from Tambaram was arranged.

A candidate said “When we contact top MNCs directly, we rarely get an interview because they receive hundreds of resumes every day. Here, we can talk to their HR people directly and we get a chance to impress them. I think I’ve done well but there is tremendous competition here.”

A few thousand candidates have been shortlisted by the attending companies for the next round of interviews. The actual number of selected candidates will be known in the next few weeks.

Below are some of the feedback from companies that took part in the job fair. Wipro recruiters said “The infrastructure is good. We got good quality candidates for all our requirements.” HCL HR said “Candidate quality is very good and have shortlisted good numbers. The job fair organisation is great and the volunteers were very helpful. We look forward to coming again.”

HDFC consultants said “We were expecting a turnout of a few thousand students like in other job fairs. We were encouraged to see so many candidates. The fair was organised very well.” Randstad managers said “Gathering such a large crowd is a huge achievement and we congratulate PERI on this. The management initiative and hospitality provided are to be appreciated.”

Some companies which had not been able to make it to this edition of the fair due to space constraints expressed their interest in being part of the next fair and also to conduct campus placements at PERI IT for our students.

The Chairman, Mr. Saravanan Periasamy said “At the outset, I thank all the companies and job seekers for helping make the PERI Job Fair the largest in Chennai with over 37 companies, 5000 openings and 40,000 candidates. We are extremely gratified at the massive response to the PERI Job Fair 2014.

We, at PERI, would also like to thank our staff and students for helping us organise and manage this fair.”
