CURRENT AWARENESS ON MEDICAL CODING


: Invitation of Online Workshop


An ONLINE workshop entitled “CURRENT AWARENESS ON MEDICAL CODING” was organized by Dr. P.Valentina, Principal, PERI College of Pharmacy Department of of Pharmacy and co-ordinated by Dr.Sonja Jose, Associate Professor, PERI College of Pharmacy. It was a two days workshop conducted on 21st and 22nd December2022. The external experts on day 1 include Dr. Kasi Vishwanathan, GM Quality Assurance , Quest Life Science, Chennai and Mrs. S. Padmavathi, Head, Clinical Trial And Medra Coding, Deepam Hospital, Chennai.

The speakers on day 2 are Dr. Aarthy, Head, Pharmacovigilance, Deepam Hospital, Chennai, and Dr. Saranya Puniyakodi, Professor and Head, Faculty of Pharmacy, Sree Balaji Medical College and Hospital Campus, BIHER, Chrompet, Chennai. Dr. Ramya was unable to speak on that day.The workshop was held in the PERI Education.

With tremendous enthusiasm, first and second year B.Pharmacy students participated. Each student received a personal computer equipped with earbuds and microphones for high-quality audio. The session was held in the Smart classroom of Beta Block, PERI Education, on the second day of the course.

Day 1: 21.12.22

Dr. Kasi Vishwanathan led the first day's afternoon session on the subject of medical coding. He emphasized that coders are regarded as members of the healthcare team and frequently collaborate closely with payers, managers, and physicians. They are a researcher, investigator, teacher, and problem-solver. He explained that NDC (National Drug Codes) allow providers, suppliers, and federal authorities to identify pharmaceuticals prescribed, sold, and utilized through 10–13 alphanumeric character smart codes.

On the first day, Mrs. S. Padmavathi concentrated on clinical trials during the afternoon session. Finally, students understood how successive stages of clinical trials built on the findings of earlier stages.

The speakers responded to many of the attendees' questions during the first day's session, which was entirely participatory.

Students gained knowledge of medical coding which would progressively allow them to satisfy market demands. It served as a wonderful platform for students to have a deeper knowledge of subjects like pharmacovigilance and clinical trials.

A vote of appreciation was proposed by Dr. Sonja Jose, Associate professor, PERI College of Pharmacy, to end the day. She expressed her deep gratitude to the administration for hosting this workshop and thanked the Committee members for their gracious cooperation. Additionally, she praised the speakers for giving up their time to speak to the pupils. She gave the PERI Institute of Technology her genuine gratitude for providing the essential technical assistance that served as the workshop's foundation.

All students received certificates of participation.
