NATIONAL SCIENCE DAY 2021

Department of Science ( Microbiology, Chemistry, Psychology, Criminology and Police Administration, Computer Science and Computer Applications), PERI College of Arts and Science organized and celebrated “NATIONAL SCIENCE DAY” on 03rd of March 2021. The celebration aims to cultivate research awareness among students and encourage the students to participate in various activities. Every year, the day is celebrated with a particular theme. This year, the theme of National Science Day 2021 is "Future of STI: Impacts on Education, Skills, and Work". The “National Science Day” is celebrated on 28th February each year to mark the discovery of the “Raman Effect” by Indian physicist Sir Chandrashekhara Venkata Raman on 28 February 1928.

On account of National Science day, we focused on bringing out the talents and innovative ideas of students by conducting a poster/ model presentation on

“Discoveries and Innovations in Science”

Students from all the Science Departments joined the inauguration and the program commenced at 11.00AM. The program started with Tamil ThaiValthu. Following the Tamil thaivalthu, Prof. V. Dharmaprakash, Head, Department of Computer Science and Computer Applications welcomed the gathering. A special and warm welcome was conveyed to the Vice Principal Dr. Simson Rajkumar for his presence. The Vice Principal of PERI College of Arts and Science, Dr. Simson Rajkumar presided over the function. He appreciated the Chairman, Mr. Saravanan Periyasamy, COO, Mr. SasiVeerarajanand Principal Dr. A. Gunasekaran for their encouragement to organize and celebrate the National Science Day for the welfare of the students. He appreciated the program organizers for initiating the program. By narrating a short story, he had spoken on the emphasis of science and technology for our present generation and motivated our students for better research while applying innovative ideas.

This was followed by power point presentation delivered by Dr. P. Nirmala, Convenor and Head of the Science Departments to create the awareness among students about National Science day. She highlights the significance of celebrating the Science Day in rememberance of Sir Chandrashekhara Venkata Raman for receiving the noble prize for discovery of Raman Effect. She has elaborated the history of science day, themes and objectives of the National Science Day. She emphasized the role of students in the development and progression of research in the field of science and technology to take up challenges at a higher level.

The ceremony was concluded with vote of thanks by Ms. S. Kiruthiga, President, PERI-KARYOTEZ. Heartfelt thanks extended to the Chairman, Mr. Saravanan Periyasamy, COO, Mr. SasiVeerarajan, Principal, Dr. A. Gunasekaran and Vice Principal Dr. Simson Rajkumar. Special thanks conveyed to the organizers Dr. P. Nirmala and Prof. V. Dharma Prakash for initiating this program. She also thanked all the science faculties, administrative staffs, and students for the grand success of the event. Finally the inauguration was concluded with National Anthem.

The second session was started with Poster /Model Presentation of the students. The working models prepared by our students have reflected their innovative ideas, creativity and talents. The models, their explanation and justification for the questions posed by the judges were highly appreciated. Excellent poster presentations on various concepts of science and technology were displayed. Totally 30 presentations (2 students per team) were initiated by the students and 60 students actively participated in it. The students were excited and overwhelmed to explain their presentations.

The entire event provided a platform to the students to prove their talents, bring out their creativity and face the challenges and overcome their weaknesses.
